The National Fire Authority is carrying out their investigations to determine the cause of the fire at the Waisomo House in Suva this morning.
It’s believed the fire started from a faulty air conditioning unit, however, NFA’s Chief Fire officer, Qionilau Moceitai says thorough investigations will need to be conducted.
Employee, Malakai Tukana told FBC news the fire didn’t spread to other rooms because fire-fighters reached on time to contain it.
“This morning one of the workers came to me and she was saying there’s something smelling from the air con – so, first of all, i went in and I looked outside and saw the air con was in flames and it was smoking inside the room. So I shut down all the electrical power to the air con. It was a good response by the workers as they heard there was a fire so everyone evacuated”.
More than eighty employees were in the building and were evacuated without any injury.
