With all the celebrations planned throughout the four policing divisions, the Fiji Police Officers are urging members of the public to take all necessary safety precautionary measures.
Police Chief of Operations, ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the usual New Year’s traditions should be practiced with caution such as the use of fire crackers, bamboo guns and the throwing of water.
ACP Tudravu says Officers are currently creating awareness and warning communities about the dangers of throwing water on moving vehicles as it is a serious safety concern.
Despite advisories and warnings, ACP Tudravu says they receive reports about this practice every year and are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s activities as it is often young children and youths who are involved.
He adds if you’re planning on leaving your homes, ensure it is secured and do let your relatives and neighbors know.
Ensure all fire hazards are thoroughly checked and switch off all unused electrical appliances.
