Dengue outbreak in the Northern division

There is an outbreak of dengue fever cases in the Northern division mostly in Labasa and Macuata areas in the last four weeks.
Acting National Advisor Communicable Disease, Dr Aalisha Sahukhan confirmed to FBC news that there has been a notable increase in the number of dengue fever cases in the Macuata subdivision mainly localized to the Labasa town areas.
Dr Sahukhan says these numbers have surpassed the expected numbers.
“So in response to the outbreak in Labasa the Northern division outbreak team and response team have opened up a dengue hub at Labasa hospital so what this hub is a place where people with the symptom of dengue fever can be treated by medical officers.”
According to the statistics provided, there were 279 confirmed cases reported from Macuata, mostly from Labasa town areas from November 20th to December 17th last year.
Dr Sahukhan says that there were over 3,000 dengue fever cases recorded last year.
However, she confirms that there have been no admissions for severe dengue and no deaths during the current outbreak which is from November 20th last year to date.
