The men and women officers of the Fiji Police Force, Fiji Military Forces and National Fire Authority that were part of the rescue mission to retrieve the bodies of Flight Instructor Iliesa Tawalo and Merelesita Lutu should be provided some kind of counselling.
Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says what the officers did could have traumatic implications.
“All of us here will agree, the terrain and the very steep cliff that they were climbing, risking their lives, sacrificing. This was the work of good Samaritans. I think, somehow, we need to do some counselling for them, especially those who went down the cliff, the fire officers, the police officers, the military as well as the Vanua of Dogoru.”
The officers spent two days in the jungle retrieving the bodies of Lutu and Tawalo from the plane wreck onto the mountain and then transported it down to Dogoru Village.
