Disability allowances making a difference; Vuniwaqa

The 2017 Census revealed that Persons with a disability in Fiji accounted for 113, 595 of the populace or 13.7 percent of the population.
In Parliament today, the Minister responsible Mereseini Vuniwaqa highlighted the government initiatives assisting persons with disabilities.
“To the tune of $7.9 million to assist those persons living with disabilities with allowances which they can receive monthly, there’s a budget for the Fiji National Council for Persons with Disabilities to the tune of $1.2 million, there’s a budget for the Hilton Early Intervention Centre.”
The Minister was responding to Government MP Howard Politini’s question on what was the current data on persons with disabilities and how was government assisting them.
Meanwhile Opposition MP Jiosefa Dulakiverata in a supplementary response said government needs to look into the installation of a ramp to make the Parliament complex more accessible for persons with disabilities.
