The Fiji Higher Education Commission has given its assurance that courses offered by the technical colleges are accredited as National Qualifications on the Fiji Qualifications framework.
The courses are also internationally recognized.
Education Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted this in parliament while responding to a question by Opposition MP Mikaele Leawere on whether courses were accredited and recognized internationally.
“The national qualification offered by the Technical College of Fiji have international recognition across different countries that have the same qualification framework levels 1-10. They’re not international accredited as accreditation is done by the country that holds them. Different countries have different sets of accreditation. In our case the FHEC has accredited these qualifications.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says the technical Colleges offer thirteen national qualification courses with a recent addition of three new programs such as tiling, block laying and plastering that will be introduced in the second trimester due to demand for more trade qualifications.
The Minister adds in line with Sustainable Development Goal 7 on Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13 on Climate Action, technical colleges will also offer two additional national qualification courses in Sustainable energy.
