A team from the Commonwealth of Learning Organization will be in the country this month to assess the technical colleges.
COL is an intergovernmental organization that promotes the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies.
Education Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says the government met with COL President and Chief Executive, Professor Asha Kanwar, during the Commonwealth Ministers meeting in Nadi last month.
He says a request was made for COL’s assistance to carry out an assessment.
Sayed-Khaiyum says a gap analysis will be conducted as a way to monitor the technical colleges that have been set up.
“We hope to have some people down on the ground atleast within the month to carry out an assessment in terms of whether technical colleges are actually doing what they’re supposed to be doing what are the areas of gap that we need to identify and indeed going forward what other further areas we can put up as courses and indeed get further recognition and hopefully further accreditation too.”
Meanwhile, at the Education Ministers meeting last month, a range of initiatives was explored that COL could undertake in partnership with the government to strengthen learning for sustainable development.
