Seven deaths and over 1400 injury cases were recorded by the Labour Ministry at various workplaces last year.
Minister responsible, Jone Usamate revealed this while delivering his ministerial speech in parliament yesterday.
Usamate says the number of workplace deaths hovered around five to seven except for 2015 when it peaked at eleven.
With a high number of injuries recorded last year, Usamate says the ministry is concerned with cases that go unreported while some are being reported late.
Usamate says they are working towards reducing the risk factors at work places.
“There is still a major challenge in educating people, educating employers, educating workers and we are always encouraging employers to identify where they have risks in their place of employment and to control this risks so you can resolved this issues and prevent serious accidents and deaths at work place.”
Usamate says the law requires companies to report injuries within 14 days and deaths within seven days.
However, the Minister adds some cases were reported to the Ministry after two years.
