Trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu who was onboard the Cessna 172 training aircraft belonging to the Pacific Flying School will be laid to rest at the Suva Cemetery today.
Lutu’s body arrived in Suva from Labasa yesterday.
A memorial service will be held from 9:30am at the Centenary Church before her body will depart the MIOTT Pacific Hospital’s mortuary at 11:30am for her final rest.
Hundreds gathered at her Tamavua home last night to pay their final respects to the second year aviation student.
The family is opening the memorial service to the public.
Lutu together with flight instructor Iliesa Tawalo were onboard the training aircraft when they lost communication with the Airports Fiji Tower at 12.30pm.
On board, the flight was Tawalo and Lutu as well as Kalara Derenalagi.
Derenalagi was dropped off in Labasa before Tawalo and Lutu continued their journey to Savusavu.
However, due to the bad weather, they were unable to land in Savusavu and were returning to Labasa when they reportedly lost communication with the air control tower.
Captain Tawalo was laid to rest in Nadi yesterday.
