Hundreds gathered at Suva’s Centenary church this morning to bid farewell to trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu at her memorial service.
Lutu together with flight instructor Iliesa Tawalo was onboard Cessna 172 training aircraft when it’s believed to have crashed into the cliff behind the Delaikoro Mountain last month.
Lutu was farewelled by close families, friends, and schoolmates from the Pacific Flying School, the St Joseph’s Old Girls Association as well as a huge crowd from the public that were affected by the tragic loss of the aviators.
Father, Emosi Lutu thanked the Vanua of Macuata for their traditional send-off from Labasa airport yesterday.
He also acknowledged the huge effort and sacrifice shown by the search and rescue operation team as well as the villagers for retrieving his youngest daughter’s body.
He says they will miss their baby of the family.
“Most times when she was staying in Nadi, She always call her mother requesting her to pray for a friend or some friends who are currently facing some problems. That was one of Mere’s personality – a caring heart.”
Classmate Mosese Kotobalavu paid tribute adding her loss has only pushed them to achieve more in the aviation field.
Kotobalavu says they will miss Lutu’s bubbly personality at their graduation in April.
“To Mere, for you we will definitely graduate this year. For you we will keep the dream alive.”
Lutu who hails from Nagigi, Savusavu and the youngest of six siblings was laid to rest at the Suva cemetery.
