Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum are suing two prominent politicians for defamation.
Fiji Sun reports proceedings were filed on Wednesday last week in the Suva High Court on behalf of the Prime Minister and the AG.
More people are also expected to be sued for defamation in the next few weeks.
The papers filed are against Fiji Labour Party parliamentary leader Aman Singh and SODELPA MP Ratu Isoa Tikoca.
The Prime Minister and AG’s lawyer Devanesh Sharma states Singh had posted an unsubstantiated article titled Regime Dirty Politics on his Facebook page claiming Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum had orchestrated temple break-ins.
In the second case, Sayed-Khaiyum is suing Tikoca for comments he made during an interview with a Sydney community radio station earlier this year which was posted on Facebook page – Fiji Exposed Forum.
Sharma stated Tikoca claimed the Attorney General was engaged in criminal and illegal scheme, was abusing his powers as a Minister and had ordered the military and Police to arrest striking Air Terminal Services employees.
Sharma adds these claims were denied by the Attorney General.
