The government is currently working on the Nasinu Correctional Centre to only cater for inmates below the age of twenty-four years and above sixty-years.
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they will be kept in separate premises of the correction services.
“So the whole idea is that those who are 24 years and younger a lot of them are first time offenders do not get what we call contaminated by being kept with the other prisoners who may be seasoned criminals in the rest of Korovou and Naboro.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says they are also working on getting accreditation from the Ministry of Education to set up a vocational centre at the Nasinu Correction Services.
He adds that these are for all young offenders around the country to get training in various areas such as carpentry, joinery and whatever courses that are being offered.
Sayed-Khaiyum says that this will help them get jobs when they leave the Corrections facility.
