Education Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has made it clear that the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme will only be payable once the recipient graduates and secures employment.
While speaking in Parliament today, Sayed-Khaiyum says they are still reviewing how loan payments should be done.
Some Opposition members queried how the deductions of the repayment is done however, Sayed Khaiyum says the government has made changes to make TELS more flexible for all students.
“We have reduced, we have reviewed, when we started TELS we need people to get guarantees we get rid of that now after it was in-place for one or two years, again madam speaker that is an improvement in the system.”
Government will continue to review the TELS repayment to ensure there’s an inclusive approach to ensure students are well looked after.
