The Ministry of Lands aims to empower Land Owning Units enabling more opportunities for investment.
Minister Faiyaz Koya says this will boost economic growth and returns for the future generation.
Enabling this process is the reversion of state land.
“Of land held in trust that is State Schedule A (SSA) and State Schedule B (SSB) leases to TLTB. As of last year, a total of 1 110 (approx.) leases were transmitted from a total of 3, 343 leases. Lessees were notified of the change in the administration of their leases. For this year, the Ministry continues to work on the transmission of leases and execute re-definition survey works.”
In his ministerial statement to Parliament, Koya also noted the on-going work that the Ministry is doing with regards to the regularization of informal settlements.
The Minister noted that Fiji has more than 200 informal settlements with more than 50 percent occupying I-Taukei land through ‘Vakavanua’ arrangements.
Koya highlighted that through the regularization of informal settlements, they are working with the ITaukei Land Trust Board, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to collect baseline data.
