The Agro Marketing Authority formerly known as the Fiji Agriculture Marketing Authority was hugely in debt and was on the verge of collapsing.
Agriculture Minister Inia Seruiratu says the issue happened in 2004 as the AMA was plugged with bad management.
Seruiratu says they had to implement strategies to salvage the Agro Marketing Authority as well as making wholesome changes in the running of the AMA.
“This led to government to make a decision to appoint public officers to the board simply because madam speaker AMA cannot to pay for the board members, so public officers will not be paid and of course the Chief Executive Officer as well and they were appointed with the hope of salvaging the doldrums
However, due to the bad management practice government have to intervene to improve their service delivery.”
Meanwhile, Government has allocated six million dollars to the Agro Marketing Authority to service the needs of our local farmers and communities.
