An investigation will be conducted into a social media post that’s using the death of a 17-year-old-boy in Lautoka for political gain.
Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says the post on social media claiming police were responsible for the death of the teenager is completely false and another attempt to discredit the organization.
He says the extent to which some self-centered social media users are using his death for political gain is extremely disturbing and shows some will take advantage of others pain for their personal gain.
He says this is shocking adding what is more disturbing is the lack of respect shown for the student and his family who are going through a difficult time with the loss of their loved one.
He adds having to find out that his death is being used by some cowards hiding behind fake profiles to gain attention is disrespectful.
The Acting Police Commissioner says people sharing and commenting on the post are equally guilty of adding to the suffering of the grieving family.
Tudravu says they have spoken to the grieving parents who have refuted all claims made of police brutality.
He has sent their condolences to the family and has given assurance they will conduct an investigation into those responsible for the post.
He says their officers have worked hard and sacrificed time with their families to ensure people were safe during the two tropical cyclones over the past few weeks.
Tudravu adds a number of their officers were affected however stayed loyal to their calling and worked throughout to ensure rescue efforts and routine operations weren’t affected.
The Acting Police Commissioner says the fake post is another attempt to tarnish their hard work.
