Keni Dakuidreketi, the former director of Vanua Development Corporation Limited appealed the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the Supreme Court in Suva.
In today’s hearing, lawyers for Dakuidreketi told the court that they were appealing the decision of the Court of Appeal in the higher court after it was dismissed in September of 2017.
Dakuidreketi was convicted and sentenced to six years imprisonment with a non parole period of five years on August 15th, 2014 by the Suva High Court after being convicted of five counts of Abuse of Office.
It understood that between the 31st of March 2004 and 21st September, 2004, Dakuidrekeit in his position as the Director for the Native Land Trust Board and Chairman of Vanua Development Corporation Limited abused his authority to the tune of $2 million.
Daukuidreketi’s counsel stated their case on three grounds of appeal, public service, intent and an excessive sentence.
FICAC responded with a rebuttal.
The Supreme Court is expected to announce their judgment at a later date.
