Yaqona farmers duped by a man to sell their produce

Police are investigating an incident where six yaqona farmers were allegedly duped by a man who lured them into uprooting thousands of dollars’ worth of yaqona.
It is alleged the man told the farmers he will sell their yaqona in Labasa and bring them double benefits.
The alleged incident happened in Naitasiri last month.
The farmers claim the yaqona was worth over two hundred thousand dollars and the man had said he will be selling it in Labasa.
According to the farmers they have not received any payments to date and they are also unable to get hold of the man.
Police spokesperson, Jokatama Qio, says a report was lodged at the Nabua Police Station but the details of the case has been sent to Labasa where the alleged incident happened.
Police are expected to release more details later.
