PM commends Japan for their development assistance

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has commended the government of Japan for their facilitation of open and honest discussions over the years, assisting with the Pacific region’s development.
The PM met with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe during the Fiji-Japan Bilateral Summit yesterday in Tokyo, Japan.
“I commend Japan for its efforts to help the nations of the Pacific Region reduce our vulnerabilities and for its long term commitment under the framework of the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting to help us meet our collective regional development priorities.”
Bainimarama also noted that Japan has become an instrumental partner in climate action while supporting other small island Pacific States in the fight against climate change.
“We are particularly for Japan’s continued support towards our Presidency of COP23 and our global effort to urgently raise ambition in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that each country is making to reduce its own carbon emissions. We also look forward to working with Japan to help adapt out own climate vulnerable economy to the working impacts of climate change.”
Meanwhile the two day Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting – PALM 8 will officially be opened tomorrow concluding on Saturday in Iwaki, Fukushima.
Bainimarama has being accompanied to Japan by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Siddiq Koya.
