The trial for Marriane Premila Devi who is charged with one count of murder began in the Suva High Court this morning.
Devi is alleged to have murdered her defacto partner Bal Krishna Naidu on November 17th, 2016 in Sakoca, Khalsa in Suva.
Samuela Viaviaturaga who is the first prosecution witness told the court that on the day of the incident between 5 and 6pm he saw the victim yelling from his terrace.
Viaviaturaga says he then ran to the victim’s house and asked the accused to bring a bed sheet so he could wrap it around Naidu as his body was on fire.
He says he then took Naidu to the hospital and Naidu’s younger daughter accompanied them.
Before entering the taxi the victim informed Viaviaturaga that his wife had poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
The witness says the victim was in pain and spoke in a soft, slow and shaking voice as his legs, arms, thighs, pants and stomach were severely burnt.
The trial continues tomorrow.
