The Ministry of National Disaster Management is looking at installing tsunami and earthquake sirens across the country.
Minister responsible Inia Seruiratu says they have started with the work and have already installed Tsunami sirens along Nasese, Vatuwaqa and Walu Bay in Suva.
He says this will provide better early warning updates in the event of natural disasters.
“We also need to prepare for earthquakes and tsunami’s and this is why Government is installing the sirens along Suva and hopefully this can be expanded to other areas and cities and municipalities around Fiji as well.”
Seruiratu says, along with the installation of sirens, his ministry is also conducting drills for citizens to better prepare them for emergencies.
He says schools around the country will go through these drills along with organizations over the coming months.
