Sereima Naiqovu is Navy’s first female Commander-of-the-Day

Around 400 navy officers, sailors, retired naval seamen together with family and friends celebrated Fiji Navy’s 43 years of service in the country today.
As a yearly tradition during Navy Day, the youngest personnel is appointed as Commander for the day.
A first in the history of the Navy, a young woman is Commander on the ground today.
19-year-old Sereima Naiqovu from Kadavu got the opportunity to wear the white officer’s uniform and give orders on the day.
The young navy personnel thanked her superiors for the opportunity adding it’s a good experience.
“It is so overwhelming seeing these seniors salute to me. I didn’t dream of this but it’s a great experience to be Commander of the day.”
The youngest of six siblings hope to one day be the first female Commander of the Navy, however, for now she will focus on her goals to be a well experienced Navy personnel.
Meanwhile, Chief Guest Chief Justice Anthony Gates commended the hard work carried out by the Navy in patrolling our waters and called for a strengthened teamwork.
