All beacons and lighthouses in Fiji will be either renewed or replaced come 2013.
This is one of the major projects Government Shipping Services is undertaking.
Head of GSS, Navy Commander John Fox says all their navigational aides need maintenance.“We hope to start renewing all the beacons in some of the areas of Fiji especiall areas where there is a lot of traffic. An example is the Navulo Passage in Nadi to Lautoka where there are a lot of tourist boats and also the bauxite area in Nawailevu, Vanua Levu.”
GSS has been allocated $3 million in next year’s budget.
