NFA investigates house fire

August 10, 2018 1:10 am

An early morning fire at Kaunitoni Street in Vatuwaqa is currently investigated by the National Fire Authority.

A three bedroom concrete house was partially destroyed and it is believed four occupants of the house were inside at the time of the incident but managed to escape unharmed.

Witness, Lalina Devi told FBC News they heard an explosion and when they reached the house they saw it was on fire.

“When we came out we saw the fire, the fire started from the side of the house, when we went there we called for the fire brigade and when they came it was too late”

Firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to the other parts of the house.

NFA investigates house fire

May 28, 2014 6:48 pm

The National Fire Authority is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire which destroyed three flats on a property in Suva this morning.

NFA Chief executive John O’Connor says three teams of fire fighters responded to the emergency call at Kikau Street in Samabula.

“The initial attack was quite good. But the water pressure in the hydrant was quite low so the output of the water because we were using so much water, the pressure to fill in the trucks was quite weak. So we had to go and fill the main hydrant on the road to keep the fire fighting going.”

O’Connor says the investigation is at an early stage.

While the owners of the property refused to speak to the press, neighbors said there is a court case concerning the property.

“Yes that’s what we have heard from the people at the scene when we arrived,. We have yet to begin our investigations. We can only confirm the cause of the fire once we conduct investigations.”

The wooden building, which was burnt to the ground, had three bedrooms and two adjacent flats.
