The increasing number of road accidents over the recent weeks is a huge concern.
Land Transport Authority Chairperson Vijay Maharaj says a major contributing factor is that drivers are still not adhering to the road rules.
He adds it’s also sad to see more drivers continue to drive under the influence of alcohol as it’s a great risk to drivers and road users.
The public is advised to report to Police or LTA if one comes across any drunk driving cases.
The LTA adds they will not condone any corrupt practices especially in the acquiring of driver’s license by soliciting monies to driving instructors or driving examiners.
Those who are caught in such situations will be referred to the Police or FICAC for criminal prosecution.
The public is reminded that people who bribe either an LTA official or to another person can be charged for a criminal offence.
The public is advised to report any details of any alleged corrupt practices and help LTA eradicate any form of corrupt practices from the transport industry at large.
The public is also advised to make use of the texting platform on 582 to report any unsafe driving practices on our roads or visit your nearest LTA office.
According to Police, the recent road death toll stands at 50 compared to 47 for the same period last year.
