One point two million liters of water have been distributed to all the government stations in maritime islands due to the prolonged dry spell.
This include the Mamanuca group of islands, Malolo Island, Vatulele and the Yasawa’s.
Commissioner Western’s Media Liaison Officer Irami Lewaravu says the water is for schools, health centers and police posts including homes.
Lewaravu adds this hasn’t been an easy job as they’re usually faced with low tide where they will have to cart water through hose pipes from the barge to water tanks on the islands.
Just an advice if you can assist them and I understand that we have been communicating with district reps and village headmen but if members of the community can assist workers that carting water to your community.
The Commissioner Westerns office has been using barges to transport water to these islands.
He says they just returned from the Yasawa’s today and plan to return to Yasawa later this week.
