The Eat Less Plastic (ELP) Crew who is currently in Fiji has praised the efforts of the Fijian Government in trying to reduce the use of single plastic by charging a levy.

Captain Phill Somerville says that it’s a good initiative by the Government – which shows they’re doing something about plastic pollution.

Somerville says the 20 cent levy on a plastic bag is surely a start to this global fight.

“I think introducing a levy for plastic bags is great but I think it should be $20 because from 10c to 20c and yes I understand the concept is to phase it out and have a solution.”

He adds they’re also expecting to meet Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and highlight their cause.
