The Suva City Council will close Albert Park after the Hibiscus Festival in August to start renovations to the venue.
The iconic facility caters for sports and leisure events each week and already is showing signs of depreciation.
SCC special administrator, Chandu Umaria says it has become necessary for them to start works on the park.
“This year around after the Hibiscus festival, we will have to close the entire ground. Like the Fiji Sports Council had done for the National Stadium. We will close the whole park for a few months. We will get the level of the ground up and we are also considering breaking the present pavilion and making a proper pavilion.”
The ground currently hosts the Suva rugby and football club games each week, while the capital side also plays its Digicel Cup matches there as well.
