The Opening Ceremony of the 10th Pacific Mini Games last night was held at Korman Stadium in Port Vila to the sounds, sights and colour of Vanuatu’s unique culture and vibrancy.

There were performances from the talents of the crew from Wan Smolbag, through to fire eaters and dancers, with cultural dance performances representing all the main islands which make up Vanuatu.

When the Van2017 theme song, led by Arthur Knight was performed, the crowd was on its feet.

Van2017 mascot Nasi led the parade of the nations as the athletes marched onto the track and then onto a central stage, introducing themselves to the invited dignitaries and guests.

A wonderful dance off between hip hop dancers and a group of mamas in traditional dress thrilled the crowd and then it went dark.

Vanessa Quai then lit the arena singing from on high before fireworks ended the proceedings with a bang.

Meanwhile, athletes from 24 countries will contest 14 different sports over the coming 10 days.

You can watch Mini Pacific Games live on FBC TV.
