Team Fiji scoops nine medals in Weightlifting

Team Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu won a total of nine medals yesterday in Weightlifting.
Fijian weightlifter Manueli Tulo won three gold medals yesterday in the men’s 56kg.
Tulo lifted a total of 109kg in the snatch and managed to lift 129kg in the clean & jerk with overall of 238kg.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 62kg, Poama Qaqa of Fiji won three silver medals.
Qaqa lifted 110kg in the snatch and lifted 127kg in the clean & jerk with a total of 237.
Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea dominated in the same category bagging three gold medals.
Seruwaia Malani and Arieta Mudunavoce raked in our first medals of the day.
Malani won three silvers medals in the 48kg category. She managed a lift of 65kg in the clean and jerk, and 50kg in snatch for a total of 115kg.
Mudunavoce, lifting in the 53kg, won a bronze for her efforts in the clean and jerk (70kg) and finished third overall with a total of 126kg.
In today’s event, the men’s 69kg will start at 1pm followed by the men’s 77kg and the women’s 69kg & 75kg.
The men’s and women’s (team) tennis competition starts at 11am while judo will start at 12pm.
The Fiji football men’s team will then meet Solomon in their second pool match at 6pm tonight.
Looking at the latest medal tally, PNG leading with 9 gold, Fiji is second with 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals while Marshall Islands is third with 3 gold medals.
