Tawai wins bronze in weightlifting

Weightlifter Tevita Tawai bagged two more bronze medals for team Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.
Tawai came from 6th place to claim a bronze medal in the men’s 77Kg weight category competition today.
He was 6th in the snatch competition and came from nowhere to lift 165Kg in the Clean & Jerk to finish with a total of 275Kg.
This is also his personal best. He won a gold medal in the 2015 Pacific Games with a similar come from behind win.
Patrick Veidreyaki put on a gutsy fight and finished fourth overall.
Philip Toua of Papua New Guinea won gold in the same category with a total of 299kg overall.
Meanwhile, Apolonia Vaivai is expected to win medals in the women’s 69kg category currently underway.

Meanwhile, looking at the latest medal tally, Papua New Guinea leading with nine gold.
Fiji is second with three gold, three silver and six bronze medals. Solomon Islands in third place with three gold and three silver.
