Apolonia Vaivai named Fiji flag bearer
Report by: Vashneel Prasad
Weightlifting Fiji’s Apolonia Vaivai will carry the flag for Fiji at the Commonwealth Games in Australia next month.
Team Fiji Chef De Mission Patrick Bower says Vaivai holds an excellent international record and is also one of the medal prospects this year.
“In the 2017 Commonwealth Championship she won gold in Gold Coast in Australia, she also won the World Championship in USA and just recently she won gold in the Brisbane Open so she has been on roll and impressive with her performance.”
Meanwhile, the 147 Team Fiji contingent today presented the I-tatau to the President Major General retired Jioji Konrote.
In his speech, Konrote reminded the team of the mission ahead.
“You need to do your best. I also like to congratulate everyone for making it into team Fiji. On behalf of all Fijians I would like to wish you all a successful outing, have a safe journey to and from the Gold Coast.”
Team Fiji leaves to participate in its 17th Commonwealth Games on Friday week.
