The first phase of the eight million dollars of ground work at Marist Brothers High School, including a 100 metre running track and a 30 meter training field, has been completed.

It was officially opened today by the government of Guangdong Province, China who funded the project.

While opening the new upgraded grounds at Flagstaff, Sports Minister Laisenia Tuitubou says it’s a great achievement for Marist Brothers High school.

“Many thanks to the government of Guangdong and the constructors for the upgrading works in working long hours in trying to complete the works which was initially initiated by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during one of his visit to China.”

MBHS Principal Timaima Sew says the newly-opened facilities will help their athletes prepare for future competition.

“The track will not only benefit the sprinters but all the runners because this provides them with a proper running area to up their ability and do better in the future.”

The grounds will be officially in use from next January.
