There will be eleven participants for the 2018 Wheelathon who will begin their fundraising journey from Lautoka next Monday and end it in Suva.
The event conducted by the Fiji Spinal Injuries Association will be similar to a relay event where each team will consist of two wheel chair users and five ambulant players.
Fiji Spinal Injuries Association President Mere Rodan says the money collected will go directly in the purchasing of new wheel chairs.
“These devices are expensive and one of these cost, the cheapest you could get is a thousand dollars and for us here in Fiji it’s not possible just to get one just like that.”
Rodan says they will stop over for a night in every towns from Lautoka to Suva.
Meanwhile, through Penrith Panthers wing Bill Kikau’s elder brother Jope Kikau who is one of the participant’s, the Association is able to secure a 20 thousand dollar sponsorship.
The week-long event is targeted to collect 30 thousand dollars which will end in a celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Spinal Injuries Association mobility services at its complex in Brown Street Suva.
