Seventeen-year-old Fiji shooter, Christian Stephen will be the lone representative to the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney next week.
He competed in the same event four years ago where he won a bronze medal however, his father Henry says his chances this time around to better that result, could be difficult.
“The discipline that he will participate in is called trench or trap shooting which is slightly different to what is shot in Fiji on a regular basis which is DTL (down the line). This is also different to what was competed in during the Pacific Games and unfortunately, for Christian the machine in Fiji that throws targets which is a world trap machine is unserviceable.”
To make up for lost preparation time, Henry Stephen hopes to take Christian to Australia this week to practice on proper machines before the event begins next Wednesday.
Christian was also part of the gold medal winning Pacific Games Fiji outfit in 2011.
